Like millions of Ohioans, I’m an Ohio State fan.

I have already started counting the minutes until the Buckeyes play again. After their incredible performance against Oregon in the college football playoffs, it’s hard to have to wait for another season of the Bucks.

Don’t get me wrong. I actually love all teams. (Well, that’s a bit of a stretch. But there’s only one or two for whom I don’t root.)

Football involves teamwork, trust and preparation.

And these are three virtues that I appreciate and value and they have been the cornerstone of my life and work.

I sometimes think of our Panera Bread restaurants like mini football teams. We don’t pass balls or have tackling dummies. But we have an incredible culture of teamwork, trust and preparation in our restaurants and yes, like Ohio State, we also have legions of loyal fans.

Those of us at the Covelli Panera are a team in the truest sense of the word and I am so proud of every Panera employee for what he or she brings to our restaurants and our communities. Each team member brings something different.

Not every Covelli Panera Bread employee will carry the ball, but they all tackle problems, guard against mistakes and play an integral role in why our restaurants consistently score with customers.
